Google allows instant results, but can you handle it?

February 8th, 2012  |  Posted in blog

SEO UK reports that as part of Googles January updates they have included a default preference to their instant results preferences. In search preferences Google will give you the following options, one of which is asking the user to determine if their computer is fast enough.

Google said the following to SEO UK about the new changes,

“Automatically disable Google Instant based on computer speed, project codename “Psychic Search”. Google Instant has long had the ability to automatically turn itself off if you’re on a slow internet connection and now Instant can also turn itself off if your computer is slow. If Instant gets automatically disabled, we continue to check your computer speed and will re-enable Instant if your performance improves. We’ve also tweaked search preferences so you can always have Instant on or off, or have it change automatically”.

This latest change will be of relief to some users who often find that the instant results can cause their machine to freeze or crash. At least now they have the option to benefit from the instant results feature but only when it won’t casue a problem for them and their PC. SEO UK often has complaints from clients regarding “instant” however we hope that this change will go some way towards making searching easier for them.
